For someone who got bad habit from drawing porn, fetish porn to make it worst, I could only spot 4 Escher Girls in my gallery here. (you may find more than me though)
From what I can tell, an Escher Girl is what happens when people can't resist the. . . URGE . . . to draw full view of Tits . . . AND . . . Ass. To do that pose right, you have to make a choice to draw full view of, Tits . . . OR . . . Ass. The anatomy suffers due to the artist being too horny to draw properly.
Now, I am guilty of this as well, but not too often, about 4 pics in my gallery for sure that I can tell, there may be more (mostly counting the tit & ass shots and not the uber boober pics that can fuck the anatomy up as well). But normally I make sure to keep an eye out for those kinds of mistakes and for a pervert as big as myself, that's saying something. I could just say fuck it and do whatever I feel like but that's the thing, it wouldn’t feel right.
Now as for this blog, I agree with some of the others that there's way too much militant feminism ranting for me to get behind. Listening to women bitch about men (mostly men) badly drawing women in comics to over sexualize them is a big ‘So Fuckin What?’. Comics are drawing by men, for men. There aren’t enough women who read comics for me to get the ‘rage’. Bad anatomy for the sake of sexualization of women is not a good thing but nowhere near as bad as other issue of the portrayal of women in comics. Violence directed toward women would be the bigger issue in my book, but I digress.
I guess my main point is that you can draw sexy without fucking up the anatomy. If you happen to fuck it up that’s okay, just try not to make it a habit. Learn from your mistakes, move on and do better.
There is militant feminism, however, Escher Girls has really convinced me that there is a SERIOUS problem going on in the comic book industry that needs to be rectified in regards to how women are portrayed.
I know about this blog for a while. What I also find interesting, is that the heroines that are on that blog are compared to there hero counterparts. I think heroines may use some raw action power and strong badass poses like the men do.
I have no problem with sexualisation (and yes, even a man may be sexualised), but If a character in a comic is all about that, I'm done with her/him. That's why I dislike 'fanservice only' series like Queens Blade even though I like the concept of sexy women brawl It out in a fantasy setting.
Just reading patiently my post again. I thinkg QB is not really an anime to fill in my argument. It's what It is and not really that bad in comparisson with other fanservice only series IMO.
I actually see less Escher Girls in porn art, because as it's porn, there's more freedom to make it overtly erotic, as opposed to the implications of... well, i guess you could call it voyeuristic stereotyping Ecscher-Girl-ism represents.
In other words, the Escher pose is meant to be very pornographic without showing the goods, while actual porn doesn't care.
I believe that there is no echer girls in porn because you expect to have T&A in our faces. And anatomy rules are discarded because the exaggeration turn in fantasy for the audience.
This blog [link] is ridiculous. Some of the stuff there isn't even near sexist, yet it is shown as the definitive proof of the filthiness of the minds of men. I'm not denying that there is female sexualization in comics, and I'm not the number one fan of ridiculous posing, but the baroque style of american comics tries to catch action in the most over the top way possible, it's the logic of that style. It's like criticizing Rubens because his girls are "too fat", and thus it sexualizes fat people. I would be more critical of plot development than looks, really.
I think it's not about sexualization, it's about bad anatomy in pro of showing stuff when it's uncalled for. Rubens draw sexy fat ppl but he draw's them right so it's great.
I think with comics, it's a mix of sexualizing/bad anatomy, rather than just bad anatomy. If it were just bad anatomy it'd show up with equal frequency in the male super heroes.
Rubens and Botticelli, two of my favourite painters.
